There are so many e-Readers on the market that it can be hard to make a decision in terms of which one to buy. This decision is made harder as each of the companies come up with newer models with even more features. The key to making this decision is to come up with a checklist. Write down all the features you want in an e-Reader, in order of the ones that are most important. This way you will know what you want the most in an e-Reader, and what features you do not care too much about. Once you have your checklist, you will be able to decide which e-Reader is most similar to your demands. For example, you may want an e-Reader that has a colored, touch screen and can enable you to read magazines and children’s books, as well as traditional novels. This will make the task of finding the right e-Reader much easier. For others, price may be an important factor. Therefore, you could just end up picking the cheapest e-Reader that has most of the features you are after.

Either way, it is important to know what you want. If you go into a store with no idea about e-Readers and what features they have, you are not going to be able to make the best decision for yourself.

E-readers have slowly been gaining popularity as more publishers realize the profitability of the market and start to release their libraries in electronic format. This is beneficial to all sides since it means more revenue for companies and a wider selection for readers. Although much of this boom may be attributed to celebrity spokesmen, much of it comes from the benefits of the actual technology behind e-readers. These electronic devices use something called e-ink to display text and pictures. E-ink is a specialized type of screen that is still a rather new technology. The greatest benefit of e-ink over a traditional LCD screen is that it reduces eye strain. In fact, it is actually less difficult to read for long periods of time using this device than reading from a paper book because of the contrast levels of an e-reader. Up until recently one of the only down-sides to e-readers was that they were only able to show grayscale images. This meant that such publications as magazines and some technical releases were not fully supported by e-readers. Luckily color e-readers have now hit the market. These new e-readers allow for a greater variety in reading material for the average user.

Print books will stay around forever, but today, eBooks are etching out their place in the publishing and reader wolrd. With the advent of eReaders and tablet style computers, it has become much easier to bring a stack of novels, textbooks or texts with you during travels or even “poolside”. As with any consumer product it becomes difficult to figure out which eReader is the best for you. There are many companies that offer eReaders, all with their own merits.

Apple

Apple offers its iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch for eReader use and eBooks. Each device uses a high resolution retina display that enhances the screen for reading. You get full Internet browsing, email and iPod abilities with the devices from Apple.

Nook

Bookseller Barnes and Noble sells its proprietary Nook for the reading public. The Nook comes in black and white and color screen. While its primary purpose is eBooks and eReading, the Nook also functions as an Internet Browser and emailing device.

Kindle

Amazon’s Kindle is both an eReader and tablet computer. Like the iPad, the Kindle has full Internet ability and functions as an emailing device. The Kindle handles eBooks with aplomb. The Kindle is smaller than the iPad, but not as small as the iPod Touch or iPhone.

When looking for an E-reader there are several different aspects of the device to consider, the most important among them is of course the screen. An E-reader lives and dies by its ability to display the information the reader wants to consume, without being able to do that effectively the device is useless. In recent years the devices have come a long way and now produce images that look just like a book page, meaning that you have to use a light to read with it. Such a situation might seem cumbersome but in fact it is just like an actual book, which makes the device a lot more realistic.

Reading from a backlit screen can be very painful for the eyes after a while, and making it possible to read a book without the headache. Another great thing about E-Readers is their cost, at the moment you can buy them for less than 100.00 and still have the opportunities to wirelessly download books. There is something to be said for such convenience since it makes a lot of life a whole lot easier, everything from magazines, to newspapers, to books can be delivered to E-Readers wirelessly for a much improved marketplace.

If you’re in the market to purchase a new E-reader, you have probably soon realized that there are a lot to chose from. If you’re having a hard time making a decision, here are some things that you should look into before making a purchase.

The features: What kind of features do you want your E-reader to have? Do you want to just read books or are you interested in playing games, surfing the net and more?

The capacity: Are you going to be one that downloads thousands of books or will you just be content with a few books here and there? Each and every model will greatly vary with its capacity.

The brand: There are many well known brands that produce quality E-readers. Make sure that you read into the reviews to see which ones are worth buying.

Size: The size is going to be important as well as you’ll more than likely be reading it at home as well as one the road. Consider the weight as well as the screen size to ensure that it’s something that you’re comfortable with.

These are all things that you should look into before making a decision. If possible, make sure that you compare at least three brands before making a decision.
