The WAP 1.2 specification defines features of a smart card application named Wireless Identity Module (WIM). The objective is to provide a secure module for keys, certificates, PIN code management and cryptographic functions such as signature, key derivation, cryptographic checksum computing, etc. The WIM enables a better level of security for both transport and application layers. It enables mobile network operators to provide secure communications between a user and a service to implement for instance mobile commerce solutions.

Benefiting from over two years of mutually fruitful cooperations, Matchtip and Bantry Technologies have agreed to offer Matchtip’s SIMecho as part of the SIM solution. SIMecho enables to automatically back up subscriber data stored on the SIM card. SIMecho protects information that is highly valued by the customer and critical to their use of mobile services. The most common example of this application is the phonebook contacts list. Data can be synchronised with the server application and restored on the SIM card if involuntarily deleted or if the SIM card is updated or stolen.

Bantry Technologies and Interoute have cooperated for a long time on building the best design and implementation to offer a mobile network operator the complete control over their roaming subscribers. The application forces subscribers onto preferred roaming partner’s network and only when necessary allows them on ‘less preferred’ networks (e.g. in case of signal loss). They will go back onto the preferred network as soon as possible. The system also offers better roaming costs to the post-paid subscribers and access to roaming services to pre-paid subscribers.

It is very attractive to have the possibility of gathering different accounts on a single SIM cards. For instant, one can manage a professional and at the same time a private account on a unique mobile phone billed on the private account. Bantry Technologies provide for both the native SIM operating system and the SIM solution a multi IMSI solution. The selection of the given account can be done either by entering a specific PIN code when turning on the mobile phone or via a SIM Toolkit menu. Either solution are equally straightforward to use.

The limit of 256 records in the phonebook does not always suffice. Bantry Technologies proposes a possible extension of this phonebook size based on a SIM Toolkit implementation.

The Parental control service allows a subscriber to set up a code on a mobile restricting premium calls and premium short messages. It is a simple but yet efficient way of giving the chance to parents to control the usage of the content of adult data for their children.
